SUMMARY

The Senior Project Engineer executes large scale projects that include specifying, selecting, building, installing and commissioning equipment. Provides daily Engineering support to the Brewing and Packaging Operations and Maintenance teams. Improves productivity through automation and process improvements; increase capacity through new equipment installations; and innovate by designing improved methods. An ideal candidate will be able to work well with other engineers as well as multiple other departments to expedite the completion of logistically complex projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and execute Engineering projects related to brewing and packaging processes. These processes include milling, conveying, mashing, brewing, cleaning, fermentation, kegging, bottling, labeling, canning, boxing and palletizing.
  • Work closely with Operations to design improvements that will improve efficiencies while enabling a growing range of recipe, beer styles and packaging options.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing future innovations in the automation of the brewery as well as ways to reduce the brewery’s environmental footprint.
  • Manage and execute engineering projects to install, commission and improve PLC controls, instrumentation, SCADA and MES interfaces (Ignition preferred).
  • Develop schedules, work break down structures, deliverables, budget and resource plans. Develop the scope of the Engineering projects assigned and execute projects on-schedule and under budget.
  • Prepare P&IDs, technical analysis and other documentation that are needed to define the scope of an engineering project or to resolve a technical issue.
  • Be hands-on in the design, build, installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of all equipment and processes.
  • Provide on-call support as needed through a rotating schedule. Facility operates 24/7 and the Engineering Department provides support to cover this.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision. Proper balancing of priorities is critical to ensure that project performance aligns with the needs of the business.
  • Mentors/coaches all project engineers within the department.

Bachelor’s degree required in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or a Physics or Computer Science degree. At least 8 years of related experience and/or training of which at least 4 years were spent managing complex engineering projects in food processing, biomedical, petrochemical, electronics and/or similar industries that focus on efficient, high quality, production; or equivalent combination of experience/education. Must have a successful track record of managing large capital projects from inception to full production. Must have engineering experience gained through the direct support of a manufacturing or product development function. This would include designing hardware, tools, fixtures, machinery and/or their controls. Ideally, this would include process development and improvements in process capability and quality. Hands-on experience with the configuration and troubleshooting of the instrumentation and controls of large scale processing equipment and the associated PLC controls is preferred. Experience with food processing equipment is preferred. Extensive experience with brewing equipment is very desirable.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD (AutoCAD preferred). Proficiency with Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs and controls hardware is very desirable. Familiarity with SCADA platforms (Ignition preferred)
